How to Choose your Optional Wisely?

The most important task of any UPSC aspirant is to what optional he shall choose. 95% of students face this dilemma.
Optional.plays a key role not only in selection but also in deciding your rank and service allocation.

Since its tough to get very high marks in GS paper, so to cover up to lower marks in gs, its very very important to secure high marks in optional. Optional and essay are the ones that make the difference. But there's lots of myth about the same . Don't go by trend as to what optional is in the boom. Don't make a mad rush about optional. See if it suits you or not.
Things to ask yourself before picking up any optional :
1.whether you find it interesting and enjoyable
2.can you study the subject over and over again for 3-4 years.
3.is there is plenty of material available for the classes of optional in the market
4.is there good mentor available for the subject online and offline
5.how popular is that optional and what is the ratio of that subject students take in mains

So first go through the list of all the options and discard which you cannot take. Repeat it, if still you are left with 10-12 choices. Rill it reduces to 4-5 subjects.
If anyone chosen can be your graduation subject, then it would be wise to take that as you already have a hold in the past in your undergraduate or postgraduate years.
Now out of these 4-5 options ask the above questions and speak to seniors and mentors and go for the same.

Hope it helps, thank you
